Last week my mom called to ask me if dad could throw away all my old Vogues from the late 90s. I couldn’t bear it! Such treasures! The call happens every spring, and I know the rational thing to do would be to chuck them. But I’m a bit sentimental- they are a big part of what sent me down this career path. The internet was not the resource it is today, so these were my window into another world. The designs, the styling, the makeup, the COLOR! They were such a treat every month. I’ve saved many editorials over the years, and this one is from the early aughts. It might be my favorite of all time- I just don’t see as may editorials as stunning as this anymore, and believe me, I see a lot of editorials- there’s a two foot stack of magazines by my desk to attest. What makes it even better is that this shoot was inspired by the real-life eccentric and exuberant styles of Isabella Blow, Elsa Schiaparelli and Millicent Rogers. They were all strong, independent women who enjoyed playing with the power of fashion and style. Enjoy the color bonanza of “Simply Shocking,” shot by legendary photographer Steven Meisel, below
